Editorial Policy
How we create, review, and maintain our health and fitness content
Every article, guide, and calculator explanation published on FitMotif is produced according to a clear set of editorial principles. This page explains those principles — what we do, how we decide what to publish, how we handle corrections, and how we maintain independence from commercial influence.
If you've ever wondered whether you can trust what you read here, this page is for you.
Our Core Editorial Principles
Accuracy First
Every health claim, formula, and guideline we publish is cross-referenced against peer-reviewed research, clinical standards, or recognised health authorities such as the WHO, CDC, and NHS. We do not publish content we cannot verify.
Clarity Over Complexity
Health science is full of jargon. We write for people, not specialists. Our goal is to make complex topics genuinely understandable without dumbing them down to the point of uselessness. If something is nuanced, we say so.
Editorial Independence
Advertisers, affiliate partners, and sponsors have no influence over our editorial decisions. What we publish is determined by what is accurate and useful to our readers — not by what earns us the most revenue. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.
Transparency
Where affiliate relationships exist, they are disclosed clearly. Where content is sponsored or promotional in nature, it will be labelled as such. We are committed to ensuring readers always know the commercial context of what they're reading.
Continuous Review
Health guidelines change. What is established practice today may be revised by new evidence tomorrow. We regularly review and update our published content to ensure it remains accurate, relevant, and current.
User First
Every piece of content we create is written from the perspective of "what does the reader actually need to know?" — not "what performs well in search?" or "what serves our commercial interests?" Useful content is the only kind we want to produce.
How We Source Information
FitMotif content is based on a combination of the following source types, in order of priority:
- Peer-reviewed scientific research — published studies in established journals (e.g., JAMA, NEJM, British Journal of Sports Medicine, Nutrients)
- Clinical guidelines from major health authorities — WHO, CDC, NHS, European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, and equivalent bodies
- Established consensus positions — positions agreed upon by major professional bodies in medicine, nutrition, and exercise science
- Expert commentary and review — content reviewed by or attributed to qualified professionals where applicable
We aim to link to primary sources wherever possible, so you can verify the information behind what you read. When the science is genuinely contested or mixed, we say so — we do not misrepresent uncertainty as settled fact.
Calculator Standards
All fitness calculators on FitMotif are built using published, peer-validated formulas. Where multiple competing formulas exist for the same metric (for example, ideal body weight or TDEE), we implement the most widely accepted methods and may present multiple results for comparison.
We clearly document which formulas our calculators use, explain their limitations, and note where results may not apply equally to all populations (e.g., athletes, older adults, different ethnic groups). Calculator results are always labelled as estimates, never as clinical measurements.
Corrections Policy
We take errors seriously. If you spot a factual inaccuracy, an outdated guideline, or a calculation error in any of our content, please report it via our contact page. We aim to investigate and, where necessary, correct content within 5 business days.
Where a significant correction is made to a published article, we add a visible correction note at the top of the affected section noting the original content and what was changed. We do not silently edit content after the fact.
Not Professional Advice
All FitMotif content — regardless of how detailed, evidence-based, or carefully written — is for educational and informational purposes only. It does not constitute medical, nutritional, psychological, or professional fitness advice. We are not healthcare providers and we do not have a clinical relationship with our readers.
For personal health decisions, always consult a qualified professional who can assess your individual circumstances.
